22 Mar Southgate at Shrewsbury Residents Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Style
With music, dancing, good food and other festivities, there’s truly no better pace to celebrate any holiday than at Southgate at Shrewsbury. That fact was fully evident this March, with the numerous events that residents were able to attend in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
On March 1, the Murphy Academy of Irish Step Dance (a group that placed in the top 3 of the regional championships) took its mission to spread the magic and majesty of Irish dance to the stage of Southgate at Shrewsbury’s own theater. With lively steps and song, the group certainly succeeded in sharing their love of Irish dance with all of our residents who attended the show.
That wasn’t the only Irish dancing planned for the month, either. Southgate residents took a special trip to Mechanics Hall to see a troupe of world-champion Irish step dancers in Music Worcester’s “Dublin Irish Dance.” Together, they performed a show called “Stepping Out,” which aims to use dance as a tool for creating a multifaceted impression of Ireland, showcasing the sights and sounds of Irish culture.
Then, residents were treated to some special festive music, with Kevin Farley: The Irish Music Guy. Farley plays 12 instruments and has a repertoire of more than 750 Irish tunes, so he had no problem entertaining everyone in the audience.
