The Mayo Clinic—one of the premier centers for healthcare services and advice in the country—has conducted exciting research that shows that a traditional Mediterranean diet can also work to reduce the risk of heart disease.
“The Mediterranean diet is also associated with a reduced incidence of cancer, and Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases,” according to the Mayo Clinic Staff.
Monounsaturated fats are found in food products like olives and olive oil, canola oil, sesame oil, avocados, and nuts. Not only are those delicious ingredients to eat, they are easy to incorporate into your diet. You can start increasing your consumption of these healthy fats this week by replacing some of your current snacks with nuts or olives and by starting meals with salads made with healthy oil-based dressings like vinaigrettes.
